Anastasiia Nesterenko

Anastasiia Nesterenko is a science communicator and academic writer with an MSc in Genetics and Cytology from Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine (2005), and a professional qualification as a Teacher of Biology and Chemistry. Her graduate thesis examined parthenogenesis in insects, or reproduction without fertilisation. Insects that reproduce without males still strike her as one of biology's quietly astonishing facts, and it is a subject that continues to shape her writing on insect biology and reproductive science.

She spent 16 years at the Mechnikov Institute for Microbiology and Immunology in Kharkiv, one of Ukraine's foremost biomedical research institutions: first as a research assistant in the Laboratory of Microbiology and Immunology (2006–2009), then in the Department of Medical Communications and Patent Research (2009–2022). From 2023 to 2024 she worked in Trier, Germany as a Product Health Research Manager and Science Advocacy Manager at an international corporation.

Anastasiia has written for BioExplorer since 2016, covering genetics, immunology, evolutionary biology, and oncology. Her work on cancer biology is supported by continuing education from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Melbourne, and Cancer Research UK, including one course recognised by the Royal Society for Public Health and another counting toward CPD for clinical research practitioners.
