In order to practice as an andrologist, one needs:
- A completed Bachelor’s degree, with courses in Biology, Physics, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.
- Pass the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
- Complete a 4-year study at medical school.
- Pass the United States Medical Licensing exam.
- Join and complete a residency in urology or clinical andrology.
- Join a fellowship in andrology.
- Get certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Optionally, one can choose from the following sub specialties:
- A fertility doctor.
- A sperm preservationist.
- Male endocrinology specialist.
- Erectile dysfunction specialist.
Another option is to enter grad school and obtain a Ph.D. in andrology in order to go into teaching.
- Continue with professional education, for instance, with courses offered by The Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU) and the Society of Reproductive Biologists and Technologists (SRBT).
